In April 2024, the Ambucs – Marquette Chapter received a $10,000 Spring Grant to purchase ten adaptive trykes. Through the national AMBUCS program, the Marquette Chapter received ten more trykes for free after the first ten were purchased.
The organization reported, “This grant made a huge impact on the population of individuals we serve – children and adults with varying levels of abilities that do not allow them to ride a typical bicycle. We were able to provide 16 additional individuals with tricycles while only being financially responsible for the cost of 8. The 16 individuals were from Marquette, Ontonagon, Baraga, and Delta counties. Each individual was successful in the utilization of their adaptive tricycle. In the process, some unanticipated results were the number of connections we made and the pay-it-forward donations that have allowed us to purchase five additional tricycles after we completed the 10-for-10 Program. In addition, we have nine children on our waiting list, so the word is getting out to get children and individuals access to adaptive tricycles and, therefore, recreation.”🚲
